Cornwall Open Studios (COS) is run for artists by artists. It is a mutually beneficial organisation which combines individual resources to greater effect than individual artists can achieve alone.
The annual showcase event is ‘Cornwall Open Studios’ or ‘COS’ for short. It takes place over the second May Bank Holiday weekend and the following long weekend.
The three weekdays in between are optional for artists. But Members can say on their web pages if they’re available for visits by appointment.
COS charges artists an annual Membership subscription which covers:
The principle behind our approach to Member artists is fairness. We wish to encourage Members of groups to join and would like to discuss and agree how this can be achieved whilst avoiding the ‘free rider’ problem.
We hope that peers and communities will ensure fairness, but if COS becomes aware that an artist or group of artists is found to be behaving unfairly, their Membership will not be renewed.
COS wishes to encourage the mentoring of young Cornish artists aged 18-26. We are researching best practice to learn from the experience of others. Members interested in the idea are invited to contact us. We hope to announce the details of our scheme during 2025 for implementation at COS 2026.
