Derek 'Gis' Harris

Ceramics, drawing, mixed media, painting

My work explores the connection between our presence on this planet and the quantum theories of reality. I use an old surrealist method of automatic drawing, with no or very little fore thought as to a subject. No reference, at least to begin with, if I feel it calls for it later in the drawing I might employ one. Mark making, both additive and subtractive , then some shapes. At this point an image or object may show itself to me and start me on a journey of discovery, topics come and go, I may add colour I may scrape at the surface. There is an atmospheric quality to charcoal that adds to the dream like feel of the image, an ambiguity that sits in our hearts and leads our mind to mysterious places.

Please feel free to contact me regarding commissions, instalment payment plans or top quality giclee prints , which i can have made to order at any size.

1. If entering Hayle from the West on the B3301, come into Copperhouse passing the Copprhouse Pub, there begins some free parking if there's spaces but it is time limited (Please keep an eye on your times as we can not be held responsible). If none, then there is a public car park a little further on between the Firestation and Libray. You will pass the studio on your left if going to the car park.

2. If entering Hayle from the East, Come through Foundry end , passing Philps pasties. Carry on past the war memorial, until you get to the library car park. Either use the free parking on the road side ( be aware there might be a time limit) or use car park. Then continue on foot past the fire station heading towards the shops. The Goat Gallery/studio is on your right. There will be signs but the Gallery is very visible from this direction.

The step entering the studio is an average door threshold and easily managed by wheel chair. The WC is not wheel chair accessible as its quite a small room but it is on one level.
