Elizabeth Loveday is a textile artist and painter. In her textile practice, she works with fabrics of differing weights, textures, and ages, hand dyeing, layering, and hand stitching to create narrative and decorative works.
While painting has long served as a means of exploring composition within her textile work, it has more recently developed into a distinct and equally significant practice in its own right.
She understands her work as a visual outlet for dialogues that exist both internally and within wider society. Through humanistic themes and characters loosely drawn from Cornish folktales and her own lived experience, she tells stories rooted in her contemporary community. Her practice reflects on self, place, and the relationship between the two.
