Shallal aspires to access and equity.

Artists develop their work in a wide range of styles and mediums, through the supportive environment, skills and conversations whether in the studio, or a community group or online.

Shallal Studio artists enjoy collaboration and community.

Their creative work can be as varied as the artists and each year different artists are chosen to showcase in Open Studios.

This year 2026 we are highlighting two artists both of longstanding in Shallal one on the supportive sidelines since Shallal's inception nearly 40 years ago, Peter Willis ( married to Jo Willis founder and creative director) and the other Anna Willis seriously involved since she was 7 years old and started performing with Shallal Dance Theatre, now a fine art graduate from UAL and a Shallal associate artist.

"My art has always been, and remains, a reflection of my search for meaning.

In recent years, my engagement with painting has had to shift with the development of Parkinson's and the termor in my right hand that accompanies it. Rather than a hindrance it has been an enhancement.

The ethos of Shallal has freed me from the restraints of conventional fine art expectations. It has expanded and enriched my approach to painting, aloowing my practice to encompass my changing abilities.

Shallal works for everyone."
