For 35 years, Mark was a book illustrator specialising in military history and bringing prehistoric sites to life.
Recently, he’s turned to painting semi-abstracted landscapes and drawing the human form. He paints mostly in oils or acrylics on board, paper and canvas.
His paintings are inspired by big skies and liminal places – moorland fringes, sacred landscapes, hidden lanes and wilderness – watery, rocky, deserted and ethereal.
He uses photos and plein-air sketches as a starting point, and back in the studio allows the paintings to develop intuitively.
Mark’s studio is in a barn at Castlemawgan, between St Veep and Lanreath.
Workshops offered. Please contact me for more information.

Postcode takes you to the wrong place, so use What3Words or map. Off the Lanreath-Bodinnick road, take the 'No Through Road' leading to Treire Farm; then first right by 'Castlemawgan Post' dustbin. Our lane is narrow but tarmac/concrete all the way. Follow it to the end, and park up behind the barns.
There's a concrete ramp leading to the barn door, ending in one low threshold step – so it's possible for most wheelchairs to come into the barn this way. The ground surrounding the barn is rough and can get muddy. This is a rustic and un-smart location, but please call ahead if you need to know anything specific – we'll help with access in any way we can.
On-site parking
Open all year round by appointment
Mark runs occasional painting and drawing classes and workshops – please ask him for details.
